How was my first fashion show?
I am so psyched to share this unforgettable experience with all of you!!
Let me start by saying, it doesn’t matter who is against you as long as you know who is for you and that’s real talk.
So, let’s take it back to the beginning.
On October 6, 2018, I received an email from Raw Artists which is an international independent arts organization , for artists, by artists based in Los Angeles. They think that every independent artist deserves the right to be seen, heard and loved. I LOVE IT <3 Okay, back to the email, it stated that Raw Artists wanted to showcase my work along with other artists in their next fashion show event that would be taking place on November 28, 2018 in Portland at the Roseland Theater.
I live about 5 or 6 hours from Portland (depending on how you drive lol). This was PERFECT <3
This was huge news for me considering this was my first ever event LIKE EVER plus so many of my faves have performed there like Post Malone, Bryson Tiller, Miguel, Krewella, B.O.B., Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Jhene Aiko, and G-Eazy to name a few. Being on the same stage as these talented people was a huge honor!
You could definitely say that I was beyond excited to get to WORKKKKKKKKK!!!!!! *britney voice* You better work bitch!!!
For those of you who don’t know. I clean apartments as well as run 50 Shades of Forever Clothing and I am so thankful for that job because it has helped me to invest in and build my brand. The first thing I did was purchase my clothing rack and then I found this really pretty velvet bracelet display stand that I just HAD to have. From those 2 purchases forward I was on a full blown creativity high and then my banner was born <3
My website designer Mario (@flawlesswebsitedesign, @marioflawless) introduced me to the owner of the THC Models Krysta Jones (@mthrfknjones, @thehighcountrygirls, @passport_cannabis) who helped me get 4 models.Shout out to Noah Mcgrew (mcmoothie) for ponting me in the right direction for music and suggesting Simon Baum (@rxnmusic) who put together my runway soundtrack. I was lucky to rally 3 of my own so 7 models is what i ended up with which is great because 7 is the number of completion. The morning of my show, I had the hairstylist and makeup artist cancel so everyone had to show up hair and makeup ready which was hard because that was not how I envisioned the day to go but it was a learning experience and taught me to better prepare in the future. Everything came together nicely in the end and the show was amazing. I even made $62 and even though I invested a grip of cash into this event. I couldn’t be mad since this was my first event. The experience was worth every cent plus all the amazing talented artists I had the pleasure of meeting.. Drea who is the owner of Hidden opulence (@hiddenopulence) this girl does badass clothing alterations, upcycle, mends and repairs based in Portland. Tristan Perrotti (@tristanperrottiart) who is an amazing artist in Portland. Antonio Alcocer (@antonioalcocer1) who is an artist, talented fashion designer, graphic designer and muralist. See!!! It was SOOOOO worth it plus the adventure of traveling a long distance all by myself for the first time was exciting!
My first Airbnb experience was amazing and I had plenty of room to get my clothing prepped for the show <3
I seriously worked until I could feel my body begging me to rest. By the time I arrived back home, I was hungry again sadly I almost fainted right in the middle of the grocery store *true story*. My faith in humanity was restored this night because a sweet and caring cashier noticed me sitting on the ground all slumped over behind the check stand, she came back and gave me ice water, and offered to call an ambulance. I continued to sit on the ground and drink my ice water until I could stand up, check out and go home. Talk about overexerting myself *geeze*, it was pretty late to be grocery shopping I’ll admit. How many of you just want to knock out that last task when you know its the very last? I knew I wasn’t alone!!
Putting together a fashion show team 6 hours away from your city is pretty challenging, especially when its your first time! Have you ever done this before? if so, then props because as a first timer this is something I will forever remember. It was so worth it to see the looks on everyone’s face when they seen my booth. I was so proud and exhausted haha.
This was an unforgettable experience that ended up exposing 50 Shades of Forever Clothing to 930 people that walked through the doors!!!! None of this would have been possible if it weren’t for those 20 people, 7 models, mario, simon & krysta, who helped me make this dream a reality.
I hope you enjoyed this story of mine! Feel free to comment or share this story with your friends.. Maybe you know someone who is doing the same thing and they are looking for inspiration. I aim to inspire, to help, to advise, and be of service. I hope you get that from the longest blog I’ve ever written.
